Bruce Walker (Chairman)

Lansdown Asset Management, Lives in Chislehurst

Bruce has had a career in the property development industry spanning 35 years. He served as main board director of a PLC housebuilder prior to starting a development company with his business partner in 2002 which, following a successful period of growth has recently been sold.

Bruce has been actively involved in the Bromley community for many years. He has helped with fundraising for a children’s charity and has a keen interest in healthcare and education having served two terms on the Bromley Hospitals Trust Board in the 1990’s. He has also served as a school governor for over 25 years. Bruce has a keen interest in aviation; holds a private pilot’s licence and regularly flies from Biggin Hill.

Julian Benington

Councillor for Biggin Hill Ward

Lives in Downe Village

Julian served in the Metropolitan Police as a career detective. On retirement he established a successful corporate and financial fraud investigation company, which was later purchased by a major international security company.

Julian has been a Councillor for Biggin Hill ward since 2006. During this time, he was the Cabinet Member for Renewal and Recreation for 4 years and mayor of the borough in 2014/15. He has been a Governor of Charles Darwin School for 8 years.

He has had a lifelong interest in military history and the two World Wars.

The Venerable Dr Paul Wright

Archdeacon of Bromley & Bexley

Lives in Chislehurst

Paul Wright has been ordained for more than 30 years, and has been Archdeacon of Bromley & Bexley since 2003.

As a parish priest, but more particularly as Archdeacon, Paul’s role involves the care and maintenance of historic buildings.  One of his churches was built in around 1250.  He also works with local churches to redevelop their church centres in order to maximise their use.

Paul is passionate about the ecumenical movement and is keen to encourage a wide cross-section of ministers to sustain the Chapel’s worshipping life.

Colin Hitchins

Community Engagement Manager, London Biggin Hill Airport

Lives in Orpington

Colin served in the London Fire Brigade for 30 years in a number of different roles including training development and delivery, research and development and as a manager on operational stations including Biggin Hill.

Colin was appointed Chief Executive of the Biggin Hill International Air Fair’s organising company, Air Displays International, by the founder Sqd Ldr Jock Maitland MBE DFC in 2004. In 2010 Colin founded Synergy Events Ltd which delivered a number of creative events in support of the RAF. Today he is a senior manager at London Biggin Hill Airport responsible for the staging of events including the annual Festival of Flight and community engagement.

Mike Render

Wing Commander, Royal Air Force (Retired)

Lives in Biggin Hill

Mike Render served in the Royal Air Force for 37 years, retiring in 2010.  His most memorable tours were: the Red Arrows Team Engineer for 3 years in the mid 1980s; adviser to the Royal Saudi Air Force, in Kingdom, for 5½ years to 2002; and, for his final 4 years, as directing staff at the prestigious Royal College of Defence Studies in Belgrave Square.  He holds masters’ degrees in aircraft design, business administration, defence studies, and logistics management.

Mike attends Roman Catholic services at the Chapel and lives in a house which had been part of Royal Air Force Biggin Hill.

Sharon Millar

Commercial Property Accountant, Millar Clark Ltd

Lives in Biggin Hill

Sharon started in accountancy in 1986 at the age of 17. Having a love of numbers, her first job was a bookkeeper for a property company.  Sharon has specialised in commercial property accounting for the last 30 years, heading up departments, setting up new companies & implementation of new accounting systems based in London’s West End & Europe, before founding the Millar Clark group of companies 5 years ago.

Sharon’s work involves company accounts, aviation accounting, on-site insolvency administration projects & disposal of property assets.

Angus Patterson

Senior Curator (Metalwork Section), V&A Museum

Lives in Downe Village

Angus is responsible for the V&A’s collections of European metalwork, weapons and armour. He has 22 years’ experience of curating, planning and implementing gallery, exhibition, interpretation and display projects and is the V&A’s lead curator for the Museum’s digitised Collections Management programme. He is a writer, editor and publisher with a commitment to using digital technologies to promote collections.

Angus is an avid reader of aviation history, with a particular focus on the Battle of Britain. As a local resident, he has a passionate interest in protecting Biggin Hill’s heritage and the memory of all who served there.

Regrettably due to work commitments, Katherine Barnett (House and Collections Manager of the National Trust’s Chartwell portfolio) and Sunil Chotai (Headteacher, Charles Darwin School) are unable to continue in their role as a full time Trustees. However the museum’s special relationship with Chartwell remain through our work with patron, Randolph Churchill. Input from staff and pupils from Charles Darwin School will also continue. Both Sunil and Katherine will continue to work closely in support of the Trust and project team.
