Imagine, Create and Be Inspired with Our Family-Friendly Activities This October Half Term
Ever wondered what life was like for a Second World War WAAF plotter in RAF Biggin Hill’s Operations Room? Come and see for yourself with the launch of our brand-new plotting table this October half term. Not only will you get to see how members of the Women’s Auxiliary Airforce (WAAFs) played a vital role in monitoring air traffic during the Battle of Britain and the Blitz, you’ll also get the chance to meet and listen to a ‘real life’ WAAF as she recounts experiences of her vital work to protect the country from aerial attack during this pivotal time in history.
The event will take place at Biggin Hill Memorial Museum on Saturday 17th October and will scramble into action a two-week season of family-friendly workshops and craft activities to keep your children busy over October half term. Come and enjoy our make-and-take craft sessions, with themes such as parachute and poppy making, memorial pebble decorating and Airfix modelling. ‘Meet’ Amy Johnson, the first British female pilot to fly solo to Australia, or take up the opportunity to chat with our Spitfire pilot as he recounts his experiences during the Battle of Britain.
There’s also a Battle of Britain trail which takes place every day over the half term holidays – answer all the questions correctly and win some chocolate planes. Also watch out for the launch of our Where’s Winston? activity. Can you and your family discover where our mini Winston Churchill is hiding in the museum?
With a different activity every day, there’s lots to see and do. See below for a full list of session details and dates. To book your place, please email email@example.com specifying the workshop you want to attend, the number of people attending (children and adults) and the age of each child.
We look forward to welcoming you to an action-packed few weeks.
