About this object610 Squadron. 'Forward Readiness at Hellfire Corner' Hawkinge. Left to right standing: Flying Officer Stan Norris, Sergeant Horatio Chandler, Squadron Leader John Ellis (just visible), Flight Lieutenant Bill Warner, Pilot Officer Fred Gardiner, Flying Officer Doug Wilson and Sergeant Ronnie Hamlyn . On the ground left to right: Flight lieutenant Edward Smith, Pilot Officer Joe Pegge (lying on his back), Sergeant Claude Parsons and Sergeant Doug Corfe. Bill Warner was to be killed on 16th August 1940, three weeks after this photo was taken. Claude Parsons was killed in 1941 and Doug Corfe in 1942.
In September 1980 RAF Biggin Hill gathered together a collection of photographs from museums, commercial and private individuals to mount an exhibition to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. The collection was passed on to Bob Ogley when the RAF withdrew from Biggin Hill.
