About this objectA copy of an Intelligence Report ('A.I.1 (k)) Report No. 494/1940, written by Squadron Leader
The report contains information and 'un-verified statements' obtained from
prisoners of war. The events took place at the Old Jail Inn, Jail Lane, on 9th
September 1940at 1800 hours. It reports that a German aircraft was attacked in
formation by 5 to 6 Spitfires from the rear, it caught fire and the pilot bailed out
suffering severe burns. The pilot, although in great pain, would not give away
information regarding his unit and said that he knew all about the aerodrome
because English POWs in Germany gave away information when interrogated.
The German pilot is named as Feldwebel Heinrich Konisch.
