About this objectA brown leather and lambs wool Irvin flying jacket belonging to Flight Lieutenant Howard Bell, 130 Squadron Howard Bell, who landed at Biggin Hill to refuel from West Malling RAF station.
Flexible and warm, it was perfectly suited for pilots who were flying higher, longer and faster. It was relatively light and supple to allow ease of movement in the cramped cockpit. The sheepskin wool lining gave the pilots much needed warmth and comfort.
