About this objectMorse code key, trench set, 1916
Early RAF personnel would have used a key similar to this First World War example to learn Morse code. Morse code was a simple form of communication used to send messages over long distances.
Text could be communicated using a series of on-off tones, lights, or clicks. The system meant the recipient of the message did not need specialist equipment to receive the message.
